This is an imaginative exercise, tracing the obscure history of a Roman biographer whose nominal existence is doubtful but whose work remains a primary source for historians of the "later Roman Empire." Lampridius, whoever he was, wrote ludicrous accounts of the lives of Heliogabalus and Alexander Severus. The idea of a biography of a biographer about whom nothing is known struck me as funny (and still does).
