As of May 1, 2008, our initial promotion for free one-year author subscriptions will be coming to an end. We thank all of you who have signed up during our promotional period and helped seed the site with exciting and thoughtful content. As we move forward with LitPitch, we believe that the most effective way to build a vibrant and engaging site is to charge a nominal annual fee of $11.95 per basic writer subscription.
The primary reason LitPitch charges its writers to post work is to maintain quality control and help maintain the purpose and the intent of the site, which is to help authors find a platform for their material and receive feedback. We believe that there are enough sites available which allow written work to be posted for free, and that these sites tend to become cluttered with vandalism or other random material that is posted only because it is free to do so. Additionally, we will be able to use the funds generated from the annual subscriptions to help support the continued marketing of LitPitch to help bring quality writers, readers and other interested parties to the site, such as agents and publishers.
We are committed to making LitPitch the number one online forum for aspiring writers to help get published and noticed, and for readers to find quality reading material to view online or though their portable reading devices.
As always, we appreciate your visiting our site and welcome feedback. Your questions or comments can be posted on our Forum or e-mailed to lweisberg@litpitch.com.
Best Regards,
Larry

The question posed above is the one we get asked the most in regard to the concept behind LitPitch. Many authors we meet are hesitant to “give their work away” because either (1) they are trying to sell it or (2) they are afraid of their ideas getting stolen.
I want to address the first concern today with two articles which were recently posted online concerning a successful publisher and a successful author, both of whom have initiated programs to post their work online in ways which are totally free to readers. The first, which appeared in the “USA Today” on March 4, 2008, discusses a new program at Random House where full copies of newly published books are posted online for readers to download: http://www.usatoday.com/life/books/news/2008-03-03-free-books-downloads_N.htm.
The second article, which appeared in “Forbes” magazine in December 2006, is by successful science fiction writer Cory Doctorow: http://www.forbes.com/2006/11/30/cory-doctorow-copyright-tech-media_cz_cd_books06_1201doctorow.html.
The theme behind each of these articles is that even published authors need to put themselves out into the public to build an audience. We believe the same principle holds true for aspiring unpublished authors. LitPitch provides a platform for writers to collectively invite the public to read their work and decide which authors they enjoy reading. What better way to entice an agent or publisher to work with you as an aspiring author than to bring them a ready-built audience for your work!
I’ll talk more about copyright protection next time, but rest assured that once your original work is posted on LitPitch, it is protected. For more information immediately, feel free to browse the US government website at www.copyright.gov.
Thanks again for visiting LitPitch.com, where You’ve Gotta Right to be Read!

Welcome to our Blog for LitPitch.com! We are glad you have made your way here and hope you will stay for a while.
If you came to read, I would recommend that you take some time to browse our various categories for something that interests you. In our first month of operations, I must say that our writers have generated a wide range of literary material in various genres. I think you will find most of it interesting and entertaining.
We are excited to see close to 100 books and other written works now posted on LitPitch!
For our writers, please notice that we have now made it possible to upload .mp3 versions of your work for those of you who want to make audio book available. I know that podcasting is becoming very popular, so please take advantage.
Finally, our first contest, the Post-to-Win contest ends tomorrow, so now is your last chance to vote for your favorite books to win this contest, and encourage your friends to sign up and vote as well.
More to come…
